Beyond the Void is an easy work created to allow a young band to create a dramatic and creative performance.
After the initial rhythmic ostinato and theme, dramatic chords give way to woodwinds and percussion creating a random soundscape - improvised using simple, 3 note cells.
There is much scope for developing young musician's concept of texture, blend and balance in a context that allows for creativity and experimentation. The overall effect is a fun work that lets a band perform a dramatic but achievable piece that challenges their own (and the audience’s) expectation
of conventional writing for this level.
