Writing ballads was not my thing until I penned this chart in 2017. It is written for someone very dear to me and once I established that connection as I wrote it really just came together and surprised me as it took shape. I have had correspondence from directors in the UK and USA about this piece that suggest to me that bands that have played this have likewise enjoyed exploring the lines that lie within it.

It is surprisingly hard to find manageable trumpet features for young players so I enjoy the fact that this has (I think) achieved that goal.
